What Materials Make A Carport?

Recently, a large construction company called for pricing and stated, “All you carport companies are the same, right?” Unfortunately, this kind of perception has left customers with unforeseen factors in dealing with the future maintenance of their carports, the ones built by the lowest bidder. USA Eagle provides customers with structures that are built with quality steel materials. Here are a few examples.

Column / Post – USA Eagle installs posts with steel tubing providing solid support. Other companies might install two stitch-welded cee-purlins for posts, leaving an open seam that water can enter and begin to rust the post from the inside out. Accidents happen, and when a car hits one of these cee-purlin posts, the cost to repair might go beyond replacing a post. Generally, whenever a car hits one of our steel tube posts, more damage can happen to the car than to your carport.

Metal Sheet Decking – USA Eagle designs carports that are specific to site location. At times, areas with heavy wind and/or snow loads might require a strong metal deck. Our metal sheet decking is a 26 gauge panel (or thicker) with a 10 – 20 year limited manufacturer’s paint coating. Other companies might sell their customers a 28 or 29 gauge (thinner) metal decking with a 1 – 5 year paint coating. This type of metal sheet might have the same profile and look the same, but if a heavy snow or hurricane blows in, a thinner metal sheet might not be able to handle the wind deflection or weight of the snow over the frame. This scenario might cause damage to your customer’s cars, which in turn, costs more money than what was saved in the install.

Bolt-up kits vs. Welded steel structures – When designed and installed correctly, a bolt-up carport can still provide protection for your car. The difference between the two styles is time and workmanship. If a bolt-up installer doesn’t torque the bolt completely, the connections can loosen over time which leads to movement. This movement can began to cost your property over time due to regular maintenance. Without the regular maintenance, the framing of the carport can begin to ‘flap’. Again, the cost to repair these bolt-up kits can begin to exceed the money saved in the install. USA Eagle provides a welded structure utilizing steel materials to avoid the need to overwork your maintenance personnel. We expect our carport structures to last 25 – 30 years past profitability.
