Even though Texas is nearing spring, there is always a slight chance of getting one last snow fall or freeze.
Carports should have a limit of what they can handle for snow pounds per square foot. But, the weather channel usually doesn’t share what SPSF is, they tell you inches. Depending on where you live determines the number of inches you may encounter at any given time of the year.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has an article on how to calculate SPSF.
If you get at most 1” of snow (usually the southern parts of the states) then it would be 5.2 pounds per sq. ft. However, if you live farther north, it is more likely that you would end up getting a minimum of 5” which would be 26 pounds per sq. ft. The chart on this article stops at 40” which is 208 pounds per sq. ft.
